Little cute owls

I haven’t written a pattern in the longest time! I’m very happy to post this cute pattern as my first in years.

(Mönstret finns på svenska här.)

You can make the owls in any colour you want, I made them in two shades of the same colour – but thats completely up to you! They are really easy and fast to make, good for beginners or if you want a small easy project.

I made them as little gifts to people that I wanted to show my appreciation for, kids will love them as well I’m sure. It’s a good way to get rid of scrap yarn and leftovers from bigger projects.

The sewing is pretty simple, you don’t have to have any previous knowledge of embroidery to be able to make them. They are pretty small, the owl will fit in your hand.

The colours I used for my owls are brown/beige, dark blue/light blue, grey/light grey and pink/off-white. You also need, black, white and green thread for the eyes and a little bit of orange thread for the beak.

I always make my amigurumis with cotton yarn and for this I have used yarn that gives 160 m/50 g (175 yds/1.8 oz)) and a 2,5 mm hook. You can use other types of yarn as well, but remember to go down one hook size when you make amigurumis, that way the crochet is a bit tighter and the stuffing doesn’t show.

Assembly
Sew the details (belly, eyes etc) to the body before you stuff it.
The belly is sewn to the body close to the opening at the bottom. Sew spots across the belly with yarn in colour 1.
The eyes are sewn to the body as shown in the picture. If you need to you can use the green yarn to sew over any black that shows through in the green iris. Sew a white dot in the pupil of the eye with white yarn. After that you will sew the white lines in the iris: start from the black pupil and sew lines evenly to the outer border of the iris, as shown in the picture.

Sew a beak with orange yarn.
Stuff the owl but not too much, otherwise it won´t be able to stand up. Sew the bottom circle (with the right side out) to the bottom.

Make the ear tufts with 3 yarn ends of colour 1 on each side of the head. At the end of this pattern is a description on how to fasten them (it´s the same as for the doll hair). Cut the yarn to about 2 cm.
If the owl is meant for a small child you should leave out the ear tufts because they will come loose easily if you pull at them.

Abbreviations
sc
= single crochet
st = stitch
sl st = slip stitch
ch = chain
