Puppy Lovey

I really like star shaped loveys, they’re cute and so much fun to make! This is a pattern for a lovey (or security blanket) with a puppy in green and white.

Here’s a view from above:

This blanket is made with cotton yarn in white and lime green. You also need some black thread and toy stuffing. I used yarn that gives 160 m/ 50 g (175 yds/1.8 oz) and a 2,5 mm hook. 1 skein (50 g or 1,75 oz) of each color is enough.

This is my second pattern for a lovey, the first one is here and it’s Harry Potter-themed.

Pattern for Puppy Lovey

The pattern is written using US terminology.

Blanket

ROW 1: Crochet ch 3 and 10 dc in a magic ring with white yarn. Skip the ch 3 and crochet a sl st to the first dc. 10 st.
ROW 2: Ch 5 (the first ch 3 counts as a dc). *2 dc in the next 2 dc, ch 2*. Repeat *-* 4 times in total. 2 dc in the next dc, 1 dc to the last sl st of row 1. 1 sl st to the first dc of the row. 30 st.
ROW 3: Sl st to the next dc. Ch 3 (counts as the first dc, here and at the beginning of every row). *3 dc + ch 2 + 3 dc in the next ch-2 sp, 1 dc in the next dc, skip 2 dc, 1 dc in the next dc*. Repeat *-* 4 times in total. 3 dc + ch 2 + 3 dc in the next ch 2-sp, 1 dc in the next dc, skip 2 dc, sl st to the first dc of the row. 50 st.
ROW 4: Sl st to the next dc. Change to green yarn. Ch 3. 1 dc in the next 2 dc. *3 dc + ch 2 + 3 dc in the next ch-2 sp, 1 dc in the next 3 dc, skip 2 dc, 1 dc in the next 3 dc* Repeat *-* 4 times in total. 3 dc + ch 2 + 3 dc in the next ch 2-sp, 1 dc in the next 3 dc, skip 2 dc, sl st to the first dc of the row. 70 st.
ROW 5: Sl st to the next dc. Change to white yarn. Ch 3. 1 dc in the next 4 dc. *3 dc + ch 2 + 3 dc in the next ch-2 sp, 1 dc in the next 5 dc, skip 2 dc, 1 dc in the next 5 dc*. Repeat *-* 4 times in total. 3 dc + ch 2 + 3 dc in the next ch 2-sp, 1 dc in the next 5 dc, skip 2 dc, sl st to the first dc of the row. 90 st.
ROW 6: Sl st to the next dc. Change to green yarn. Ch 3. 1 dc in the next 6 dc. *3 dc + ch 2 + 3 dc in the next ch-2 sp, 1 dc in the next 7 dc, skip 2 dc, 1 dc in the next 7 dc*. ROW 1: With white yarn. 6 sc in a magic ring.
ROW 2: 2 sc in every sc. 12 st.
ROW 3: 1 sc in the next sc, 2 sc in the next sc. Repeat. 18 st.
ROW 4: 1 sc in the next 2 sc, 2 sc in the next sc. Repeat. 24 st.
ROW 5: 1 sc in the next 3 sc, 2 sc in the next sc. Repeat. 30 st.
ROW 6: 1 sc in the next 4 sc, 2 sc in the next sc. Repeat. 36 st.
ROW 7-13: 1 sc in every sc. 36 st.
ROW 14: 1 sc in the next 4 sc, 2 sc together. Repeat. 30 st.
ROW 15: 1 sc in the next 2 sc, 2 sc together. Repeat. 24 st.
ROW 16:
1 sc in the next 2 sc, 2 sc together. Repeat. 18 st. Stuff the head.
ROW 17:
1 sc in the next sc, 2 sc together. Repeat. 12 st.
ROW 18: 2 sc together, repeat. 6 st. End with a sl st and sew the opening closed.

Green circle

ROW 1: With green yarn. 6 sc in a magic ring.
ROW 2: 2 sc in every sc. 12 st.
ROW 3: 1 sc in the next sc, 2 sc in the next sc. Repeat. 18 st. End with a sl st.

Ear

(Make 2)
ROW 1: Crochet one with white and the other with green yarn. 6 sc in a magic ring.
ROW 2: 2 sc in every sc. 12 st.
ROW 3-5: 1 sc in every sc. 12 st.
ROW 6: Decrease with 1 sc somewhere on the row. 11 st.
ROW 7: Decrease with 1 sc somewhere on the row. 10 st.
ROW 8: Decrease with 1 sc somewhere on the row. 9 st.
ROW 9-10: 1 sc in every sc. 9 st.
End with a sl st.

Arm

(Make 2)
ROW 1:
7 sc in a magic ring with white yarn.
ROW 2: 2 sc in every sc. 14 st.
ROW 3-5: 1 sc in every sc. 14 st.
ROW 6: Decrease with 1 sc somewhere on the row. 13 st.
ROW 7: 1 sc in every sc. 13 st.
ROW 8: Decrease with 1 sc somewhere on the row. 12 st.
ROW 9-11: 1 sc in every sc. 12 st.
ROW 12: Decrease with 1 sc somewhere on the row. 11 st.
ROW 13-14: 1 sc in every sc. 11 st.
ROW 15: Decrease with 1 sc somewhere on the row. 10 st.
ROW 16: 1 sc in every sc. 10 st. End with a sl st.

Assembly:

Stuff the ears with toy stuffing just a little bit and sew them to the head. Sew nose and mouth with black thread. Sew the green circle to the head where one eye goes, sew eyes with black and white thread. (See picture.)

Sew footpads to the paws with green yarn, a bigger spot in the middle of the paw and three small dots above. Stuff the arms, not all the way up. Place the arms below the head with the footpads facing down. The arms should point in different directions. Sew them to the head.

Place the head with the arms attached in the center of the blanket. Sew the head and arms to the blanket, make sure you sew them to the right side.
