Spring Bunny

p3

(Mönster till Vårkaninen på svenska finns här.)

This is a pattern I’ve named Spring Bunny.

A great thing about this pattern is that there’s almost no bodyparts to sew! The body, legs and arms are made in one piece.

The height of the bunny is 33 cm/13 inches.

P1

The pattern requires a medium skill level.

I use both of these techniques: working in a spiral and joined rounds. Where to use which one is in the pattern.

The yarn I used gives 160 m/ 50 g. That is 175 yds/1.8 oz. I used a 2,5 mm hook, (between B-1 and C-2 in US sizes). I used the colors light green, light violet and white. I also used a little bit of light and dark pink yarn, and some dark blue and black yarn/thread for the nose and eyes. I needed less than 50 g (1.8 oz) of every color.

I embroider eyes on my amigurumis, but using safety eyes works as well.

The pattern is in american english.

Legs
We’re now making the legs. The gap between the legs is made first. Flatten out the body and count 10 stitches on the left side and 10 stitches on the right. This is the left and right leg. What’s left is 4 stitches in the middle of the front, and 4 stitches in the middle of the back. These make the “gap” between the legs.
ROW 1: Crochet with sc until you get to the first stitch of the “gap” in the back. 1 sc in the next 4 sc. Turn.
ROW 2-4: Ch 1. 1 sc in the next 4 sc. Turn.

Stuff the body and sew the “flap” you have made to the 4 “gap” stitches in the front. (See picture below).

grid

We’re now making the right leg. Each leg is made out of 14 st.

ROW 1: Start with new thread (light green) in the first stitch after the gap, in the back. Ch 1. 1 sc in the next 9 sc. Crochet 4 sc into the side of the “gap”. (14 st)
ROW 2: Work in a spiral. 1 sc in the first ch. 1 sc in the next 13 sc. (14 st)
ROW 3-17: 1 sc in every sc. (14 st)
ROW 18: 1 sc in every sc. Change to light violet yarn. (14 st)
ROW 19-24: 1 sc in every sc. (14 st)
ROW 25: 2 sc together, repeat. End with sl st. (7 st) Make sure the leg is stuffed enough and sew the opening closed.

The left leg is made the same way as the right, but instead of starting in the first stitch after the “gap” you start in the last stitch before the “gap” in the back of the body.

Arm
Both arms are made the same way.
Go back to row 9 of the body and the stitches you skipped. Start with white yarn in one of the stitches in the back of the body. Stuff as you go.

ROW 1: Ch 1, 1 sc in the next 12 sc. 1 sl st to the first ch. You will get an opening under the arm, sew it closed with the yarn you started with. 13 st.
ROW 2: Ch 1, 2 sc together. 1 sc in the next 10 sc. Skip the sl st and crochet a sl st to the first ch of the row. 12 st.
ROW 3: Ch 1, 1 sc in every sc. Skip the sl st and crochet a sl st to the first ch of the row. 12 st.
ROW 4: Change to light green yarn. ch 1, 1 sc in every sc. Skip the sl st and crochet a sl st to the first ch of the row. Change to white yarn. 12 st.
